Capturing Chefs in their environment
As a former chef with over 20 years of experience, my transition into photography is rooted in my intimate understanding of the culinary world. My work focuses on capturing the unsung labor and dedication that occurs behind the scenes in kitchens. Through black-and-white photography, I seek to document the raw energy, resilience, and precision that chefs embody in their daily craft. My goal is to tell authentic, intimate stories that celebrate the people whose work remains often invisible to the public but is critical to the operation of any kitchen.
In my experience working in Michelin-starred kitchens across New York, Italy, and Philadelphia, I’ve witnessed the intensity and precision required in creating extraordinary dishes. This experience informs my photographic approach, where I draw on the same attention to detail and commitment to authenticity. I strive to capture the intensity of a chef’s focus, the collaborative nature of kitchen work, and the intricate process of creation. My photography brings forth the humanity behind the kitchen’s mechanics, offering viewers an understanding of the dedication and artistry that goes into every meal.
